Teen Who Ran Down Children And Baby While On Her Phone Leaves Jail

A blonde teenager who ran over and killed two children on a zebra crossing while she was on her phone has been released early from prison for good behaviour.

Valeria Bashkirova was 18 when she mowed down the kids aged five and four and a baby in a stroller on a crossing in the Russian capital Moscow in July 2021.

Shocking footage of the incident shows her ploughing through the crossing at 50kph (31 mph) straight into the children as they are halfway across the road.

The clip shows them being hit so hard that the children, the baby and the stroller are sent flying 50 feet down the road,

The two children died in hospital while the nine-month-old baby suffered concussion and a brain injury which has left them permanently disabled.

The two young victims, both boys, were on a bike and a scooter when the Mazda ploughed into them on the crossing.

Bashkirova- now aged 20 – was first thought to be drunk but it emerged she had been using her phone when she hit the children.

Prison officials agreed to release her after reading reports of her faultless record of life behind bars.

Bashkirova took part in Easter egg dying, reading poetry on Russia’s Cosmonauts Day and keeping strictly to prison rules.

Now she has been released, she reportedly plans to return to her studies.

During the court case, she asked for forgiveness from the family and apologised.

Her father paid RUB 200,000 (GBP 1,640) towards the cost of the funerals of her two victims.
