A woman in Russia has been arrested after she delivered a baby in a bucket and burnt it in the oven the same evening.

The woman, from the village of Olenevod, in Russia’s Primorsky Krai, whose identity was not disclosed, was apprehended after a neighbour witnessed the gruesome act on Tuesday, 14th November.

The neighbour had reportedly called cops saying that she saw the suspect give birth to a child, claiming that she also saw her drown it in a bucket.

When police knocked on the suspect’s door she reportedly said that she had a stillbirth. She confirmed that she delivered the baby in a bucket.

She then went on about how she allegedly took the baby and put it in a heated oven in order to burn it and get rid of it.

Primorsky Krai Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “An inspection of the home did not establish the whereabouts of the baby.

“The woman explained that she gave birth on her own, was not registered with a medical organisation, and later got rid of the child.

“A set of operational and investigative measures is being carried out, the results of which are put under control by the supervisory agency.”

Primorsky Krai’s Investigative Directorate added: “No traces indicating the birth of a child were found, the alleged mother was interrogated.

“She explained that she had a premature birth in the fifth month of pregnancy, and therefore she got rid of the fetus.”

Police have opened a criminal investigation for murder against the mother.
