This is the heart-stopping moment a clueless driver fails to see a massive sinkhole that appeared out of nowhere in the middle of a road and was left teetering on its edge.

Smartphone footage recorded in the town of Uryupinsk, in Russia’s Volgograd Oblast, showed vehicles driving around the sinkhole to avoid plummeting inside on 21st May.

But as curious bystanders gathered around to assess the situation, a red Lada Oka appeared oblivious to the danger with one of its wheels plunging inside.

The next scene showed people rushing to aid the driver, by swiftly opening the car’s passenger door and enabling him to safely exit from the other side.

One of them can be heard telling the driver: “Get out from the other side!”

The driver later told local media that he didn’t notice the sinkhole while hurrying along the road. He also expressed his gratitude to the people who hurried to help him.

Meanwhile, specialists from the local water utility have begun preparing the sinkhole, said media.

Uryupinsk officials stated that traffic at the intersection is currently limited.
