Mum Shames Police By Turning ‘Tec To Find Who Killed Son In Burning Barn

A closed police investigation into the killing of an 11-year-old boy who burned alive in a barn has been reopened after his mum turned detective to shame cops.

Albert Umbetyarov was found dead by firefighters locked inside the burning building in Dubovaya Roshcha, a village near the Russian capital Moscow, in May last year.

But police closed the case without finding a single suspect, according to local media.

Now they have reopened the case after his furious mother Kristina Umbetyarova began her own investigation into Albert’s death.

She immediately identified two prime suspects, local teenage thugs who had often been seen hanging around the barn.

And she went house to house checking for witnesses and asking for access to home protection video footage that could show who locked the barn.

She was also able to prove that her son did not buy the lighter that apparently started the fire, and that the suggestion that the fire started from inside was also not correct.

Crucially, she also found that her son was apparently unconscious when the fire started.

She also discovered one of the teenagers provided contradictory statements initially saying that the dead boy had been locked in the barn, and a girl who appeared to indicate it had been murder also later changed her statement.

The campaigning mum also demanded to know how it could be that her son had set himself on fire after first of all nailing himself inside the barn.

Rescuers who rushed to the scene had to break down the door first, and by the time they pulled him out, he was no longer breathing.

Kristina told local media: “From the first day, I could see where everything was going.

“Sure enough a short while later it was revealed to me that my son set himself on fire.”

She added: “A police officer on the scene had already told me this on 19th May last year, when I arrived there after hearing of my son’s death.

“Then the investigator repeated the same thing to me.”

But Kristina’s courage sparked a furious social media protest on Russian platform VKontakte and now shamed police have reopened the case, according to local media.

A statement from Investigative Committee chairman Alexander Bastrykin’s office obtained by Newsflash on 11th May confirmed the revived investigation.

It said: “A.I. Bastrykin ordered the resumption of criminal proceedings regarding the death of a child in the village of Dubovaya Roshcha, Moscow Region.”

They went on: “In May last year, his body was discovered while putting out a fire in a wooden building. The parents of the deceased believe that his death is criminal in nature.”

They added that the case had been reopened as a result of the extra information.

Albert’s mum welcomed the move but said: “I want the truth, whatever it may be.

“If in the end, they tell me that my son accidentally set himself on fire, then so be it, just let them prove it.

Kristina added: “Thanks to everyone who cares. This is our common victory.”
